The Research and Implementation Centre “Critical Thinking Research Lab” (CTRL) operates within the Institute of Philosophy at the Ignatianum University in Cracow. CTRL’s primary mission is to conduct research on critical thinking and logical culture, and to develop effective methods for applying research findings in both individual and societal contexts. The Centre is headed by Dr. Ewa Odoj, with Dr. Jakub Pruś serving as Deputy Head. The team also includes Dr. hab. Jarosław Kucharski and Dr. hab. Piotr Duchliński, Prof. UIK.

CTRL’s research activities are conducted in an interdisciplinary manner, reflecting the multidimensional nature of critical thinking – encompassing its logical dimension (primarily within the domain of practical logic), as well as its epistemological, psychological, and ethical aspects. The Centre seeks to promote close national and international cooperation among academic institutions involved in critical thinking research. This is pursued through initiatives such as joint publications, the organisation of conferences and seminars, the development of research networks, and the implementation of collaborative academic projects.

The applied dimension of CTRL is expressed, among other ways, through the development of innovative didactic methods and tools aimed at fostering critical thinking across diverse areas of individual and social life. Once developed, these methods and tools are implemented into practice and systematically evaluated for their effectiveness. For this reason, the Centre undertakes a variety of educational initiatives – particularly within the scope of lifelong learning – offered both online and through partnerships with educational and cultural institutions. CTRL also actively promotes collaboration between the academic community, public institutions, the third sector, and the private sector.
